Free Service Now Available in Areas Served by Duquesne Light, PPL and UGI Gas

PAOLI, Pa. – May 2 – Fans of daily online deals for products, services and entertainment, and others wanting to stretch their dollars, now have a new way to save – this time on their monthly utility bills. A novel group buying service available at no cost to residents who are customers of Duquesne Light in southwestern Pennsylvania and PPL and UGI in central Pennsylvania will enable them to save on monthly utility bills from these energy suppliers.

The service is available from Paoli-Pa.-based Alphabuyer, which is adding a new dimension to group buying by helping consumers combine their buying power to get discounts on their monthly bills.

An estimated 3.9 million Pennsylvanians can benefit from the expansion of the Alphabuyer service, which first launched in December 2010 to customers served by PECO in Philadelphia and other parts of eastern Pennsylvania.

* Utility customer data as of April 2011 according to Pennsylvania Office of Consumer Advocate (http://www.oca.state.pa.us/) * Savings based on average electricity usage of 875 kilowatt hours and natural gas usage of 200 ccf

Current offers are available at www.Alphabuyer.com where consumers can receive best-in-market pricing on 12-month fixed rate energy contracts. Offers are available through May 16 or until they “sell out” by reaching the maximum number of customer enrollments. New offers will be constantly added, so customers can check back frequently for new deals.

Alphabuyer negotiates with suppliers to offer groups of consumers the most competitive rates on utilities such as natural gas and electricity. “Local residents now have an unprecedented vehicle for negotiating better rates, options and terms for the bills they have to pay every month,” said Kevin Johnson, founder of Alphabuyer. “Starting today, Alphabuyer is giving customers served by Duquesne Light, PPL and UGI a novel way to lower what they owe on these vital services and keep more money in their household budget. It’s savings powered by people.”

Since Alphabuyer launched in eastern Pennsylvania in December 2010, it has already signed up more than 1,300 consumers. While the first offers are for savings on utility bills, the company is planning to expand the group buying concept to gasoline, cable, Internet and mobile phone service, among others.

Customers simply visit www.Alphabuyer.com and enter their zip code to view offers in their area. They can then compare different plans and prices, estimate potential savings and review the details of the offer. Once enrolled, customers can share the offers with friends and family. As more people sign up and the size of the group grows, the savings increase. Once the offer closes, everyone enrolled enjoys the same discounted price. Each offer is available for a limited time period.

Alphabuyer charges no fees to switch. Consumers continue to receive only one bill from their local utility since that company continues to deliver the energy to the consumer’s home, with no interruption.

As an advocate for consumers, Alphabuyer negotiates for the best locked-in rates and also for the best options and features such as no cancellation fees, upgradable agreements and no hidden fees. In addition, Alphabuyer will be there to negotiate the best possible renewal terms.

“Alphabuyer empowers consumers to gain control over bills that they didn’t think were negotiable,” Johnson said. “These are ongoing savings month after month.”
